I can’t help going all skittywompus when it comes to dragons. Though my friend Anya @ Starships and Dragonwings might have me beat. But really – I need more Dragon like Christopher Walken needs more cowbell.
This was prompted because I was over visiting Carmel @ Rabid Reads and she posed a question – What do you love about Dragons? Of course I started to furiously type away in the little comment box and realized, I just couldn’t stop there!
See the comment I left @ Rabid Reads:
Hello….REALLY you want me to state what I love about Dragons!? Ok SCALES, lithe and sexy, dangerous….FIERY…smoking HOT HOT HOT…They can fly! Oh I seethe with jealousy. Let me just roll around for a second on the tile floor to cool down.
Ok to continue. They are such majestic and magical creatures and embody so much of what I love about Fantasy.
I think its time to turn this into a gushing blog rant…yeah snagging my comment LOL to say “Carmel asked what I loved about dragons…and I just couldn’t stop…
As you can tell – I love dragons. Heck is there a Fantasy reader out there that doesn’t!? If you’re that person, well I’m sad to say you just might be broken inside. Just saying.
These creatures add such an amazing element to so many of the fantasies that I have loved through out my life. Whether they be the villain or a wise companion. They are one of the symbols that represent the fantasy genre. When you say fantasy to someone I can bet you that dragons are one of the first things they think of next to wizards. Forget all that war, sword wielding and magic casting – it doesn’t bring it home quite like a battle on the back of a dragon would.
So enjoy a little bit of a look at some of the hottest dragons in movie magic – then tell me some dragon books I need to read! (as if my reading queue isn’t outrageous enough as it is!)
Some dragon books that I’ve read *edited in per Mogsy’s request* =)
- The Death Gate Cycle books by Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman
- Dragonlance series (the ones by Weis and Hickman)
- Hurog Duology by Patricia Briggs (Dragon Bones & Dragon Blood are the titles)
- All the Anne McAffrey, Dragons of Pern books
- The Hobbit by J.R.R Tolkien
- and I’m coming up dry right now…any others?
Authors if you can read me….more dragons please?

You know you are so right. When I tried to put together a list, it was so short. BUT in my defense the books I did add in there were series – so those SERIES had tons of dragons. So its a lot of books but the list looks short haha.
You gearing up for BEA! So excited to be rooming with all of you ladies and get to hang out with you again.

I’ll definitely check out your dragon list!

I like big dragons, little dragons, mean dragons, swamp dragons, noble dragons, dragons hidden as people, dragons that people ride, dragons way to cool to be rode, and mostly I just like dragons.

Yes! Dragons Galore! I think I’d probably also watch any movie made if it has a dragon in it even if it was a crap movie (like Dungeons and Dragons…)

You should have included a list of books with dragons in it that you enjoyed, so I know what to look for as well 🙂
Anyway, a few off the top of my head: His Magesty’s Dragon by Naomi Novik is excellent if you haven’t read that yet! And Marie Brennan’s Lady Trent books, get on those, STAT! I’ve also enjoyed Robin Hobb’s Rain Wild Chronicles, though those don’t get as much love as her other series in her Realm of the Elderlings. Her version of dragons is really cool though!
Funny enough, I’m also reading not one but TWO books currently with dragons in it. Eon: Dragoneye Reborn and The Copper Promise.

So I added in a quick list but was having a brain block and I just know there has to be more dragon books than that, that I’ve read.

Witches of Eileanan by Kate Forsyth

Yaaaaaaaaay, your design is up and running and I LOVE IT! 😀 It’s funny because I do enjoy dragon stories, but I feel like I’ve never been as enamoured with them as most everyone else seems to be. That being said, I’ve certainly read my fair share of dragon stories (The Hobbit, Seraphina, Eragon, etc.) — not to mention VIDEO GAMES like Dragon Age and Skyrim!

I just finished what I think was my first ‘dragon’ fiction. It was okay, but I really loved the idea of shape-shifting dragons!! That would be SO AWESOME! I am loving this post because I am loving all the ideas people are sharing!
The book I just finished reading was called One Realm Beyond by Donita K Paul
