This week’s art was inspired by the book A CREATURE OF MOONLIGHT by Rebecca Hahn
A Creature of Moonlight | My Review Coming Soon! | Goodreads | Amazon
I recently finished this book and I have to say it was a quiet and enjoyable read. It wasn’t the typical YA fare. It features a young girl who is essentially a princess in exile. She lives on the border of the woods and these woods have a tendency to come and go as they please. The woods are filled with fey type creatures and ruled by a dragon.

Alright folks link up and lets see what you’ve done! Remember to link back to this post!
Also be sure to enter my EREADER GIVEAWAY – I’ve updated the rules so if you already own a Ereader you can have the option to win that value of books instead!

Angie @Angela's Anxious Life
My favorite time of the week!!! I started looking into those apps you sent me.

I am so glad you look forward to it! I know it is only the third week but I was hoping someone else would be wanting to link up by now but hey I will just keep plugging along in the hopes it will catch on. If not at least I am still doing some artsy fartsy stuff right. I am excited you might be doing one someday soon! You will have to let me know if any of those apps work for you. I keep gravitating back to pencil and paper.

I have to admit, I love books with dragons in them. Sounds awesome.
Tabitha (Pabkins)
Well just one dragon really =) But yes me too – whenever I see new dragon books in SFF I’m almost guaranteed to add it to my reading pile.

I sadly suck

Oh you don’t suck! Heck look at that Hyperbole and a Half lady – her drawings are just stick figures and people LOVE them. =) You should totally give your drawing skills a shot!

Jessica @ Rabid Reads
So pretty, Tabitha 😉 I haven’t read this book, but based on your description, I probably will. I’ll wait for your review to decide for sure, but woods that come and go as they please, filled with dragons, etc. . . . Sounds kinda amazing . . .

Ok not filled with dragons. Just one dragon =) I really did enjoy it but I think this is another of those ‘not the typical YA’ books and some heavy YA readers might find issue with it because of the tone and narrative style. I hope you end up liking it if you decide to read.

I didn’t know the book but I love the cover and what you did is really cute! Thanks for sharing!

Aimee @ Deadly Darlings
Ahhh I love these drawings! I have zero artistic talent, so I’m pretty jealous. 😛 I especially love the second one–the background and the dragon look badass. 😉

Thanks Aimee. I always cringe when people say they have no artistic talent. Heck I struggle and I think just doing it makes you get worlds better every day. I really can only draw or sketch cartoon type stuff but I have fun doing it. You should give it a try I bet you would like it!

A Creature of Moonlight sounds great! I love stories with fae and dragons 🙂 Great drawings too!

Thanks Traci. Sometimes I feel like a little kid sitting and doodling after I read books but I have fun with it and it forces me to still do something other than read since my husband says that’s all I care about doing.
Now I can say —noooo see I draw doodles too!
The book was great, definitely not the typical YA.

So cool. I am in awe of your talent. I used to love to draw, but with kids and my schedule I don’t have time for crafty/artistic stuff these days plus the blog
Tabitha (Pabkins)
I barely have time either. I’ll sneak moments whenever I can. Heck I’ve been known to hide out in the bathroom pretending I have the big D just to get more reading time to myself. But Shhhhh don’t tell the husband and toddler.
Thanks for the compliment!

Charlene @ Bookish Whimsy
This is awesome – how could I’ve missed seeing this feature before! I love seeing fanart for books – it really helps flesh out the characters for me sometimes. This book sounds really interesting as well – I look forward to reading your review!
Tabitha (Pabkins)
Thanks Charlene! Well I just rolled the feature out a few weeks ago. I figured its a nice way to force me to do something other than read. My fanart is totally not even real fanart in my opinion since I just draw really basic cartoon outlines. Every once in a while I might do a mini painting. That was what I did for my first fanart feature. =)

Ohhh, very pretty! I love the sound of the book too, by the way. You made the pictures look like fairy tales, I love it.

Thanks Mel. It was definitely an enjoyable book. And it really did feel very fairytale what with the forest and fey creatures and the dragon.

I can’t believe I haven’t seen this meme before! I absolutely love the idea, though I’m on the low end of the artistic talent scale. Still, love the idea and love your fanart! 😀
Tabitha (Pabkins)
What what what! You should still totally give it a whirl! No one has decided to yet which makes me a little sad, but hopefully someday 🙂 i definitely get better at drawing the more I do it. I start them off with stick figures then layer more detail ontop, but never much since i am better at cartoon style.

Been busy busy I see! Love the dragons, DRAGONS! I want a wee little dragon, pocket dragon, hmmm, that would be so awesome 🙂
Tabitha (Pabkins)
I would love a pocket dragon!
Livia @ Butterfly-o-Meter Books
Ahhh, this is gonna be fun!! Next time I’m jumping in too, if I don’t feel too embarrassed by my doodling…which sounds so much kinkier than meant, lol.
P.S.: Your robot is truly awesome, you’ve done a dab job!

Love them!
You have inspired me so much… today I bought an sketch book and a charcoal pencil. I don’t know where to start though. 🙂

Tabitha (Pabkins)
Hooray! Ok lets start first with (put down that charcoal pencil haha) You can move to charcoal once you’re more comfy with a normal pencil and eraser. Charcoal is absolutely lovely but it is rather messy for a beginner (plus if you use charcoal or charcoal pencil you would have wanted to get the appropriate paper and a kneaded gum eraser type ) and plus starting with pencil will make you so much more comfortable right off the bat.
Art lesson 101 via comments hehe.
Shapes! equals drawing figures!:
So everything I draw I start off with the simplest of shapes first. Sharp pencil and if you want to say draw a Cat *wink* draw a circle head and triangle or pear shaped body and add two smaller triangles in front for paws (if the guy is sitting down facing you) and then add in the details on top of your basic shapes then erase out all the extra lines that you don’t want.
I tend to start almost all of my new sketches this way – especially if it is a creature I haven’t drawn before.
So let’s get you onto doodling! You should totally instagram me some of your doodles – do you have instagram?

I guess it’s good I also bought a graphite Pencil, but I forgot to buy an eraser! *headdesk*
Thank you for the 101 lesson, I really appreciate it. I’ve been watching videos on YouTube and other tutorials on the internet, but still haven’t lifted the pencil.
Yes, I have Instagram, Marcela305. I’m nervous just thinking about showing you the drawings I haven’t yet drawn.

Tabitha (Pabkins)
A regular old eraser should work fine with the graphite pencil. There has to be one floating around your house or office somewhere!
I love watching youtube tutuorials it is honestly how I learn a lot of techniques for any of the crafts I do. For drawing I’ve also used books because those you can see the slow step by step where as sometimes those videos go fast and I get tired of rewinding.
I have a very cartoony style so its easier. I’ll never be a realistic artist.
What do you mean you are nervous! Don’t be nervous I’m so excited!! It doesn’t even matter if it’s a stick figure it is you trying. Hey and I LOVE Hyperbole and a Half and all she draws are stick figures!!
Followed you
