This week’s art was inspired by
CORALINE by Neil Gaiman | Goodreads
A few years ago I made this ribbon jointed, polymer clay, self portrait art doll inspired by Coraline. She was the first I’d made so she’s quite a bit ruff and I accidentally used the wrong paint so she’s glossy too. argh.
Then one of my best friends Rachel (who may be joining us here on the blog in the near future) asked if I could make her one. She had made me a gorgeous humongous painting for my toddler’s baby room so of course I couldn’t turn her down. I’m just ashamed to say it took me a year to make her. But I love how she turned out – way better then the first one! I love her white hair and turquoise dress!
And then of course today since I’m into doodling and watercolor right now I did up a super fast sketch / watercolor. Anyone else love Coraline??

FAVORITE DOODLE I’VE DONE THIS WEEK
I absolutely adore this ghostly looking chubby guy. And realized that I totally favor the turquoise watercolor paint.

Very nice doodles and dolls – and your friend should be very pleased with the way the doll turned out!

I definitely think she likes her. She wanted all the ruffles like my original doll. The ruffles were a pain in the arse because they are hand folded and sewn on one fold at a time – painnnnn LOL I stuck myself alot. Blood sweat and tears I say.

Your dolls are adorable! I love Coraline too… now I’m envious… I want my own Coraline doll.
I have noticed you favor the turquoise color… it’s one of my favorite colors. 😉

It is totally one of my favorite colors. You should give it a try making one! All you need is some polymer clay, some masking tape for the core….and fabric, paint and hmmm whatever you want to use for hair. I used raw needle felting wool on the first doll and mohair i think for the second one’s hair but i can’t remember. It’s much easier then people seem to think if you go for something really simple like the first one I made.

The chubby guy is the cutest isn’t he!!? I might not be able to give him up lol.
The dolls are time consuming and mine aren’t even intricate compared to the ones my sister makes. Hell she even puts eyelashes on hers!

I love the little turquoise dude and agree about the colour! You’re so creative. My sister has a thing about collecting dolls too – she’s also really artistic. She has loads of these really creepy goth dolls that look like something out of a Tim Burton movie.

Heck yes! Anything that looks like it crawled out of a Tim Burton movie I am all about it! I adore his vision!
I’m so glad you like him. He’s definitely one of my favorites so far. I actually seem to flip flop back and forth. I’ll do one I like then one I hate and so forth. I don’t have any goth dolls well I guess the one I made of me looks kind of victorian gothic doesn’t it?

I don’t think I’ve ever heard of Coraline but I do love your dolls! The button eyes are so creepily cool
Tabitha (Pabkins)
YOu’ve never…NEVER heard of CORALINE? Not even the movie? The stop action claymation movie? Dude – Tim Burton – go out rent it, buy it, watch it now. It is so freaking creeptastic that you’ll think it was made just for you.

Or I will beat the ever living crap out of you next time we meet. Or I’ll just lick the side of your face like a dog until you give in.

I love your monsters and cannot resist anything Coraline, love the progression from the first to the second doll. Is it weird to think creepy things are kinda cute? 🙂

I totally love creepy cute dolls and monsters. Now when they veer over into the realm of grotesque thats when I shy away. Which is odd because my sister really likes even the horror style dolls that are bloody and emaciated and just *shivers* NOT CUTE.
Glad you like them. Yes the progression from the first to the second was amazing. You learn so much from every attempt. I bet if I were to make another it would hopefully be even better!
