This week’s art was inspired by the film
My Neighbor Totoro
I absolutely love everything Studio Ghibli – but especially My neighbor Totoro because it has TOTORO and little tiny ones as well as dust sprites and a Cat bus – I mean COME ON – a cat bus! Anyways, if you can’t tell – I’ve gotten bored with painting at the moment and went off on a tangent with yarn instead. I have an entire office FULL of yarn. So much so that my mom swears I could open my own yarn shop. So I plan to make a ton of these from random doodles if I feel like they would make a decent yarn mosaic – then stockpile them and hopefully someday sell them. But yeah – that’s a long way off. I have to stop having crazy attention deficit crafting and finish all the projects that I start.
Some more Random Yarn Art!
Uhh – I was feeling lazy and I haven’t really read much of anything in at least a week so I just took one of my sketches, made it a little bigger and then yarned all over it. Yes that’s right YARN! I bet you guys think I have art/craft A.D.D. don’t you? I must admit I love how this little guy turned out. I’m already working on a different one (which you can see above). I know – I should be reading – or finishing the halfway started paintings from a few weeks ago. I DO WHAT I WANT!!

You can see lots more of my daily doodles over on my instagram! Remember if you decide to participate via Twitter or Instagram please use #FanArtUp so we can all checkout your doodles!

Random Doodle – by KAT!
Kat wanted to participate so she drew and colored the Cheshire Cat from Alice in Wonderland. It looks very Disney don’t you think?
So link up folks we want to see your art!

Yes time consuming and freaking messy as hell! – but so awesome looking when they are done!

I’ve never seen that done before- I actually thought those drawings were filled in with frosting. What can I say- I have sugar on my mind. Great job!
Tabitha (Pabkins)
Filled with frosting! Omg how much work that would be and all just to be eaten. No no I like to keep my artwork. I can’t understand all those beautiful art cakes – all that hard work and they just get eaten, destroyed or fall apart. LOL
I’m glad you like it!

I love your yarn monster! I would definitely buy one if you started selling them :).
Just curious, how long did it take you? Did you just use hot glue and yarn? I have craft ADD too so I may attempt it….someday

Kat Stark @ NotYetRead
I’d like to attempt too honestly! But watch it turn out like something my kid would make. lol

Jen (At Random)
LOL, exactly my fear! But hey I figure if it does turn out ugly then no one has to see it…ever.
Tabitha (Pabkins)
Thanks Jen – I love him also! I’ll definitely be selling tons of artsy stuff hopefully sometime around the end of the year.
I didn’t use hot glue – gosh I can’t imagine how much more messy hot glue might be (I’ve never used hot glue in my life I don’t think LOL) Maybe I need to buy one of those glue guns to see just how destructive I can be with one.
I used fabric glue (heck yarn is “fabric” right? LOL
Tabitha (Pabkins) recently posted…Fan Art Up! (21) – My Neighbor Totoro & Yarn Art
Jen (At Random)
Fabric glue makes much more sense :-P. Yeah, hot glue guns are messy and well painful lol.
Tabitha (Pabkins)
Thanks Jen! That makes me feel so good knowing people would actually consider buying the things I make cause yah I really do hope to open a a little etsy shop someday. I just need to crack down on myself and force myself to finish all my art projects. I have a zillion half started things in my office and I just get ADD and move onto something else and never go back to the ones I already started. lol. I should do a post like that soon – Fan Art Up! – all the things left undone LOL.

Cute Chessy too Kat! 😀
Jeann @ Happy Indulgence
Awww I just love those Totoro photos, they are truly works of art that are really eye-catching! Kat’s Chesire Cat is a great piece of work too. I wish I could draw, lol.

Tabitha (Pabkins)
Thanks Jeann! I absolutely LOVE Totoro. I have a much cuter drawing that I wanted to turn into yarn art but it might be too detailed of a photo to pull off well. I’ve noticed from working with the yarn that it does NOT turn sharp corners very well. I’m sure you can draw you just gotta DO it!

Danya @ Fine Print
Studio Ghibli is the absolute best. My favourite will always be Howl’s Moving Castle, but My Neighbor Totoro and Princess Mononoke come in closely after that. If only my attention deficit moments were as productive as yours, Tabitha! Instead of creating art I usually end up zoning out on the couch as reruns of Pretty Little Liars play in the background. It’s pretty awful, really.
And Kat, your doodle is awesome too! At this point if you guys told me that Maggie also draws I wouldn’t even be surprised. So much creativity on one blog!

*phew* thank goodness. I though it looked like crap, but I attempted!! That’s what matters!! LOL. And it’s hard to not want to do some art on the side when I see Tabitha’s work. GORGEOUS!! Makes me want to try to get into it more 😀

More art yes yes yes! I will peer pressure all of you into indulging in your craft sides!

Tabitha (Pabkins)
Howl’s Moving Castle is definitely my favorite as well. That and Spirited Away. I haven’t watched Princess Mononoke in SOO long. I need to watch that one again this month then.
Oh yeah you’re right! My A.D.D habits do sometimes produce at least one cool item before my attention is pulled elsewhere by something else shiney.
True to typical Tabitha form the totoro is STILL unfinished and I’ve already moved onto a different medium and project entirely (I just made a template this morning for a cloth plush girl dolly to make on my sewing machine) – see what I mean total A.D.D.
Maggie totally does not draw, she gets so impatient with arts and crafts and just slap dashes things together its hilarious. Though she’s been using her sewing machine recently. She made me burp rags for my first child a few years ago. I always try to rope her into the crafts though. =)

I think I would lose my mind if I had to sit there and glue yarn in circles…but you make it look so cool and beautiful! Very unique:-)

Tabitha (Pabkins)
Haha – a litte impatient are you? I actually had a lot of fun making the blue ghosty one and the second one as well. But I can totally see having a problem focusing on it after awhile because it just gets so repetitive! hence my attention will run off somewhere else like “oooo maybe I can use my sewing machine this week”

Michelle @ In Libris Veritas
These are super cute! I’ve tried doing this in the past but I think I have the wrong glue…or possibly just stupid fingers, lol. I usually end up with yarn stuck to everything but the places I want. Maybe I should try it again!
I’m going to try and link up tomorrow, I just have to remember to take pictures of my art.

Tabitha (Pabkins)
Yeah I think I’ll probably try to find a better glue. This one is so messy but then I think all glue is probably crazy messy. I did get a ton of yarn stuck to various other places that it didn’t belong – like my fingers, clothes ….hair. So totally a messy undertaking.
I can’t wait to see what you link up!!

Thanks Mel! I’m wracking my brain to come up with more ideas of ways to use my yarn and all my other craft supplies. I need to start churning out some art and stockpiling it so I can get up the nerve to open an etsy shop!

Yey, I really love the yarn thing and am kind of tempted to try. I used to love the idea of knitting because I could pick out pretty yarn but sucked at actual follow through. I feel like this would be a good way to pick out pretty yarn to use and actually make pretty things I like!

Tabitha (Pabkins)
Haha – I love crochet – I originally started out with knitting and while I did ok – once I learned to crochet I stopped knitting entirely (so much more work to knit).
Definitely a good way to use yarn without all the knit/crochet madness. Though I still want to crochet and knit just haven’t been in the mood to do it in ages.

Ooo what kind of yarn art did you do in the past? I need more ideas. I googled some more ideas for using yarn other then to knit and crochet because I need to make use of this stuff.

Yes – then you must have just as much as I do – because I have soo much. I was tempted NOT to use my more expensive yarns for these thing but then I realized that would mean I’d just go out and buy more yarn because I don’t have the colors I want in the cheaper yarns so yeah I just need to USE them and not care how much I originally paid for them lol.

These look so great, Tabitha! Very cute :3 Plus the bonus Cheshire Cat is adorable (although I may be biased 😉 It was really creative to use yarn too, it’s like extra levels of awesome. I must confess I am terrified of Studio Ghibli stuff though, haha. I saw Spirited Away when I was really young and was so freaked out 😛
