This week’s art was inspired by
my pile of crochet doll heads
In typical Tabitha fashion every week I seem to get bored with whatever art medium I’m working in and zoom onto something else. So I was doing yarn paintings for a few weeks and then Anya @ On Starships and Dragonwings were chatting and I convinced her crochet is completely different then knitting and she should give it a try. So she did – and of course it made me want to pick up my own crochet hook again – so I promptly started to work making lots of heads. Why just the heads though? I have no idea why just the heads – I do plan to make the rest of the bodies someday. Maybe I’ll even make them all look different. I’m trying to work out my own patterns too. I’m now up to 6 doll heads in varying sizes. I think the tiny ones are so so cute – just a bit bigger then the size of the human eye.
So of course as I’m now the Queen of headless dolls I had to draw myself as such. All the little heads how they dangle in want of bodies. SUFFER MY CROCHET CREATIONS FOR YOU MAY NEVER HAVE BODIES IF I HAVE MY WAY!! *cackles madly like the wicked witch she is*

You can see lots more of my daily doodles over on my instagram! Remember if you decide to participate via Twitter or Instagram please use #FanArtUp so we can all checkout your doodles!
So link up folks we want to see your art!

Awesome crocheting skills. I only know the basic stitches and can only create a rectangular piece of fabric. How did you even do those heads and shaped them into well, heads?
They really look creepy but in an awesome way. What about the hair?

Your evil queen self portrait seems like it may be Maleficent influenced – I like. I’m pretty decent at knitting but I’ve never tried crochet. Maybe I’ll give it a try sometime! There are a ton of instructional videos on youtube (aka how I learn to do everything) that look promising.

I agree with blodeuedd…disturbing. Yet strangely amusing that you’re just crocheting heads.

Creepy — I dig it. The heads remind me of the game for PS3 I never played, Little Big Planet.

I like those heads and the artwork you made inspired by it. Like Anne, it also reminded me of Little big planet!

I used to crochet. A little. A very very little. But I never made it beyond scarves.
Love the hanging heads in your drawing 😛

See and I’ve never made a scarf because I don’t have the attention span for it!
Carmel @ Rabid Reads
Look at you branching out into crochet; is there anything that you aren’t good at, Tabitha? You seem to be obsessed with heads this week which is fitting seeing how Halloween is just around the corner. As usual, keep bombarding my IG feed with your creations! 🙂

I’ve actually been crocheting toys for years! I just go thru phases with my crafts where I’ll set one aside and not doing it for a long while then something will happen and I’ll get the itch to try it. This was brought on because of the yarn art I was doing and then with Anya saying she had tried knitting and couldn’t do it I convinced her to try crochet instead and it ended up making me want to crochet a few things as well.
Yes I love heads! I have another head I finished – the monkey head. They’ll all get bodies eventually. But I tend to make the body parts and leave them laying around unsewn together for ages.
I’m making a frankentstien monster thats squarish an all that needs sewing on is the little arms and face patch so I think that’ll get done right away. Its the heads, arms, legs, tail, ears, hair, embellishments ones that have tons of pieces that I get bored with once I finish the pieces I never feel compelled to put them together lol.

Lol, this is creepy and cute! I used to crochet years ago..but I don’t think I even have the supplies anymore or the skill to make something so round. I tried making a pot holder once and it turned into a chef hat. I kid you not. It was the best looking mistake I’ve ever made, that was my first and last attempt at crochet, lol.

Wow, you’re really talented (if I haven’t told you that before?) I love the second art; it’s so original!!

Mwahahaha, I’m happy to be a bad influence ;-). And sorry for again failing to post this week, the doctor’s appointment took up all my mental effort, next week for sure!

Haha, it kind of reminds me of those fury, fiery creatures in the Labyrinthe movie who can take their heads off and throw them around – maybe your dolls tried that and lost their little bodies!

I know exactly what you’re referring to! I love those fiery guys. I even had a stuffed animal one of them custom made based off a photo from the movie – not to look like the ones int he movie but to look like the toy at the very end of the movie that is in her room. It’s awesome!
