That’s a Wrap! – August 2014 – It was the month of Funk!

September 13, 2014 Monthly Overview 20

That’s a Wrap! – August was over ….over a week ago and I just now realized that I never wrapped the month up. I’m awful and forgetful lately what can I say? Well let’s just blame it on the pregnancy hormones. I’ve been in an awful reading funk the entire month of August if you couldn’t tell I barely read/reviewed the amount of books I normally would. I’m hoping to get over that soon but I’m still just not feeling full speed yet. In the meantime Kat and Maggie are picking up my reading slack. Thank goodness for friends!

About Me Junk:

  • The biggest news is of course I’m pregnant – due March 12th. I don’t know the baby’s gender yet – but I’ll find out October 23rd!
  • I’ve been in a reading funk so I’ve been doing yarn art paintings instead. I’ve finished several and you can take a look at the past few Fan Art Up posts or my instagram to see examples of the ones I’ve done. So far I’m really liking this medium.
  • I have a huge stack of partially started and yet unfinished…who knows when I’ll finish acrylic paintings. Have I mentioned I have a terrible case of art A.D.D – I get distracted so easily by newer shinier project.
  •  I went to DragonCon in Atlanta, GA with Jessica from Rabid Reads and wouldn’t you know I didn’t really take any pictures. Highlights from that though, I met Sharlto Copley – the actor that plays King Stefan in MALIFICENT, Murdock in The A-Team, the lead in District 9. I also got to meet and chat with several cool authors and went to a few SFF book panels, mostly about urban fantasy.  I did decide that this particular con was not for me and I won’t be attending again in the future. I prefer Book specific cons so I think I’ll stick to World Con and World Fantasy Con. Oh I did buy some cool original art as well. My favorite part about the con was the Art Auction and artist alley.
  • Currently reading: I wouldn’t even really consider myself currently reading anything. If I actually pick up one of my halfway started books this weekend I will be immensely surprised!
  • Currently watching: Anime! I’m feeling in a very anime watching mood lately and I’m currently watching NORIGAMI on Netflix and THE IRREGULAR AT MAGIC HIGH SCHOOL on Crunchyroll. Anyone have any good anime recommendations? And yes I watched the first episode of Sailor Moon Crystal and did not enjoy it and will not be watching any more of it *cackles madly*

Not Yet Read News:

  • Kat has been a great addition and I hope you’ve enjoyed her very full powered  and katty reviews. raaaawr
  • Tina started Law School so is officially on hiatus from reviewing. Heck she’s only read 10 pages of “for pleasure” reading since the school term started at the beginning of August. The poor dear! I hear weekly laments about homework and legal briefs. I do not envy her. I never want to go back to school – writing reviews on a blog is homework enough for me!
  • I pimped out several stacks of books to My sister Richelle, one of my best friends Rachael, and Maggie’s sister in law Cristen in the hopes that they’d each read and review of few of them. Because I’m drowning don’t you know!! None of them have read and reviewed so far – but I’m still holding onto that slim hope!
  • Have any of you noticed ALAN Jones post a few times on the site? Well that would be our lovely Maggie’s snarky husband. He started stealing books from Maggie’s stack of review books and we told him he better start reviewing them if he was going to be reading them anyways. So whenever we are able to badger him into writing a review you’ll be hearing from him.
  • I’m thinking of adding a biweekly “What I’m up to” type of post that isn’t really necessarily about books but about what I’m doing artwise, or what anime I’m currently watching or maybe even a how-to process on whatever project I’ve created recently. Anyone interested in that?

Congrats on the baby! 😀 Can we see it when the day comes? Haha 😀

I haven’t read a lot too, once in a while yes. UNI has been taking over my time lately. But its glad to see you gals are still going at it.

    HI KAAAAT! 😀

Baby numero dos!!! Congratulations, Tabitha! Personally I would definitely read a “what’s going on with me” type of post. I’m quite nosy and I like to hear about people’s lives. 😀

I’ve been loving all the posts from Kat, Maggie, and Alan! Post on, fearless readers! I’ll miss Tina’s insights but law school is a huge commitment so good luck!!

I think a weekly post of what your up to is wonderful!! It’ll help with it being constantly book reviews and it will help with keeping up with the reading too. I’m actually watching NORIGAMI on Netflix too, how are you liking it?

I also saw Sailor Moon Crystal and though I watched the first few…it’s not nearly as good as the old ones (but I’m bias towards those as I grew up on it).

I, personally, am currently watching SAO 2, so I’m excited for episodes each week on Hulu.

I think including more personal posts about whatever would be awesome :D. It’s completely understandable that you’re not reading as much lately with the pregnancy, I will probably just sleep all day when I do that haha

Yep, like some others have said, if you post it, I will read it. 🙂 And you get total slack without need for apologies during your pregnancy and after! No need to worry about number of books read/reviewed, we all know you’ll do what you can, and absolutely no need to feel it should be any more.

Congratulations! I adore your little yarn dolls, you could go into business! I was in a reading funk this month too, it took me over 20 days to get through a book and it wasn’t at all the book’s fault, but I finally finished it. I hope you get out of your funk. Kat is a great addition! 🙂

I’d love to see posts that are about other things going on in your life! I actually just restructured my blog, to get away from being just a book blog and I’ll be posting more about other stuff 🙂 I love reading non-bookish posts on people’s blogs!

Congratulations on the baby! You’re actually due on my birthday so let’s cross fingers that the little one sticks to schedule. I have always wanted to go to DragonCon. Sorry you didn’t love it. I’d still like to go once just to see what it’s like.

I haven’t read much at all lately either. I blame my back problems and the terribly hot weather where I live. Oh well there’s always next month. And I’d love to see what’s up type posts. I am always interested in what bloggers do outside of reading.

Haha. ‘If you post it, they will come’ (and read it)!
I love your blog and there’s always lots to read. Plus I love your creativity. Boo to reading slumps. I hate that. Confession (don’t tell anyone). I usually read some sneaky romance when I’m in the reading doldrums!

And I’m approximately two weeks late to this one, but better late than never. 🙂 I hope the pregnancy is still going well! I’ve actually been watching a bit of “Norigami” on Netflix recently, but if you need something silly, probably have to go with “Baccano” or “Ouran High School Host Club.”

Tina does not make law school sound fun, which is bad because, despite never wanting to return to school, I’ve decided to take the LSATs when they come around next in December. >.>

    Happy almost October!
