THIS WEEK’S TOP TEN:
Books I would love Santa to bring me!
My personal nutso commentary on each can be seen below. Can you rant and rave to me why I should already have read these?
THE FALCONER by Elizabeth May | Goodreads | Amazon – I normally don’t get too into historicals – but hey this is historical fantasy! And I’ve heard such great things about it that I really do need to read it. Plus bonus for having an illustrated cover instead of the standard photo. There are more you know reasonable reasons for wanting this book but …ehhh its been awhile since it came out and its been on my wishlist every since and hey…I can’t for the life of me remember what they are right now – so sue me – if you’ve read it go ahead and remind me why it’s so awesome and that I must have it….
TOMORROW THE KILLING by Daniel Polansky | Goodreads | Amazon – I read the first book in this series a few years ago and I didn’t realize that the author had finally put out more! My review of LOW TOWN here. Indeed there are TWO more that I haven’t read yet – oooo nelly belly wouldn’t that be sweet. I’d be just as tickled pink to get TOMORROW THE KILLING and SHE WHO WAITS!
PRINCESS OF THORNS by Stacey Jay | Goodreads | Amazon – Supposedly this is Game of Thrones meets Grimm’s fairytales so how the heck could I possibly want to pass this one up! I neeeds it my precious I needs it!
THE TROPIC OF SERPENTS by Marie Brennan | Goodreads | Audible – I listened to the first one on audio and loved the narration and so of course I would be much happier LISTENING to this one instead of reading. I haven’t written the review yet because technically as I’m writing this post I HAVEN’T finished the audio book yet – but hey details details it will be finished and reviewed very shortly.
THE DARK MIRROR by Juliet Marillier | Goodreads | Audible – A little while ago I read my first Juliet Marillier book DREAMER’S POOL and it was absolutely AMAZING! Now I think I must read all of her books if I can. I definitely want to do them on audio though because I’ve had so much more time for audio lately and the baby is due in a few months and audio will probably be easier. I’d actually love to have any of her first books on her other series. HEART’S BLOOD, or SHADOWFELL, or WILDWOOD DANCING or WOLFSKIN. I already purchased DAUGHTER OF THE FOREST today on audio, so the rest of those books in audio woulda be great also lol.
SHADOW SCALE by Rachel Hartman | Goodreads | Amazon – I read and LOVED Seraphina and heck I would be happy with this one as a print or an audio. I know I likely won’t be able to snag it for review so buys it I must! Have you read it yet? If you haven’t and love YA and dragons you totally should *whips you till you read it* My review of SERAPHINA
HEIR OF FIRE by Sarah J. Maas | Goodreads | Amazon – So technically I haven’t even read THRONE OF GLASS ….BUT I’m already collecting them all in hardback and I’m pretty sure I’ll love them. So I need this right? Yes of course I need it….pay no attention to my weird desire to own all the books in hardback when I haven’t even started the first book. Might I kick myself for this later…I have a few times on other series – so I better not be wrong about this one…please please precious don’t be wrong.
DEALING WITH DRAGONS by Patricia C. Wrede | Goodreads | Amazon – Again – on this one I’ve heard nothing but good things from all sorts of my fantasy bloggy friends and I feel like I’m the last one here to the party. Can you just LOOK at that cover – doesn’t it look fun? I say it looks fun – SAY IT LOOKS FUN YOU FIENDS!!
MAPLECROFT by Cherie Priest | Goodreads | Amazon or Audible – I wanted to read this when it came out but never got around to it and a copy never arrived. I would totally love to listen to it on audio because the narration sounds fabulous!!
SURPRISE ME WITH THE PERFECT BOOK SFF BOOK I HAVEN’T READ YET!! by ? | – So yeah I guess I own way too many books as it is – but you know one can never own enough fantasy and urban fantasy or science fiction because I NEED all these books right at the tips of my fingers to read at my leisure whenever the mood strikes me. IS there something I haven’t read!? Plenty – this is my wishlist on Goodreads.

Bec @ Readers in Wonderland
THE FALCONER IS AWESOME! I read an ARC at the beginning of the year and now I’m so very very desperate to get my own physical copy.
Definitely get into more Juliet Marillier! Heart’s Blood and her Sevenwaters series are my favourite. I haven’t had a chance to read her Bridei Chronicles or Wolskin series though (yet) but her writing style is just so beautiful I don’t think I could dislike anything she writes.
I don’t think you’ll regret collecting all the Throne of Glass books. They just keep getting better and better and have very quickly become one of my all time favourite fantasy books. I own the UK/AUS paperbacks but have been wanting to start collecting the hardbacks myself… and normally I hate having multiples of the same book!

Wow Tabitha, I think I would accept each and every one of those as well. That is a solid list.
I didn’t put any on my own list this year but I know an Amazon Gift card or two usually comes my way.

Cassi @ My Thoughts Literally
I loved The Falconer! It got me excited about stories about fae and steampunk. It’s a great Historical Fantasy with an amazing world and characters.
I also loved Heir if Fire! It’s my favorite in the series so far because the changing P.O.V.s makes sense plus dragons and awesome new characters!
Princess of Thorns is really good too. It takes a bit to get good but it has a great slowburn romance and character development.
Excellent choices! I need to read the others, though.

You have some great books on your list for Santa. Heir of fire is epic and filled with feelings. I still haven’t reviewed it, because I have no idea where to start. I love lovelovelovelove Juliet Marillier – as you might know by now – and I also need to get that series. I own most of her books in Dutch and now I’m planning to buy them in English too, so Santa can drop them off if he likes. The falconer is great :D!

Sci-fi/fantasy books Tabitha hasn’t read?! The end of the world has arrived. 😉
Unfortunately, I can’t rave about any of these because I haven’t read them either (except Princess of Thorns, which I didn’t like as much as I’d hoped). But I can definitely recommend Wildwood Dancing. Happy book gift receiving!

I have The Dark Mirror, but haven’t started it yet. I did just read all of the Sevenwaters books by Marillier, and think you should definitely get to those. 😛
And The Falconer didn’t make it to my list, but this is such a good reminder. I want that book!

Princess of Thorns is SO GOOD! I just read it last week and loved it. I’m also trying to start collecting Sarah J Maas’s series and got the first hardback book from my secret santa. I’ve heard they’re fantastic and they look so pretty!
Hopefully Santa leaves you some goodies under the tree this year! Here’s my Top Ten!

The Falconer looks good. Princess of Thorns was good, mostly two main characters bantering while traveling. I thought the ending a bit convenient, but I still enjoyed it. I still need to read Throne of Glass too! Nope, nothing wrong with owning them all before starting. I can’t think of something you haven’t read but need to, but that’s a good thing, right?

Mogsy @ BiblioSanctum
There are at least three dragon books I can see up there…this pleases me.
And I totally thought you did get a copy of Maplecroft, otherwise I would have suggested that as a possible choice for your Audible credit! I know I was eyeing it myself, I had the product page open for most of the day!

Hahah you are collecting the Throne of Glass books without reading them? YES ME TOO, they will be read one day. Also the first book of The Tropic of Serpents is that Natural History of Dragons book right? I WANT TO READ THAT SO BAD TOO. I need to get my hands on them both.
Also, currently listening to the audio of Seraphina 🙂

McCallum J. Morgan
You can never never have to many books…okay, so there was a dangerous stack at the top of the stairs that could have fallen and killed someone but I divided and moved it, so it’s all good now. More books: rebuild the tower! I want Clariel by Garth Nix. And then I may as well have Sabriel and Lireal (I already own Abhorsen). I have all of the Series of Unfortunate Events and book one of All the Wrong Questions, so I need all All the Wrong Questions. I THINK I’ve read Dealing with Dragons and if it’s the same one I read, it’s AWESOME!
Danya @ Fine Print
Dealing with Dragons is an absolute must. Ya hear that Santa?! I mean really, a princess who’s also a librarian – and a badass? Who wouldn’t like that? I have copies of both Maplecroft and Tropic of Serpents that need to be read…one day! 🙂
