THIS WEEK’S ART
Monstrous by MarcyKate Connolly | My Review | Goodreads
Unfortunately I didn’t love Monstrous like I’d hoped I would. It was still a cute story and I still adore the ideas behind it and I think a lot of middle grade readers will really enjoy it. So I couldn’t help wanting to doodle the main character from the cover art / illustration!
You can see lots more of my daily doodles over on my instagram! Remember if you decide to participate via Twitter or Instagram please use #ArtitUp so we can all checkout your doodles!

Impulse Purchase of the Week
So over the weekend I went to a local Kwirkworld store (I don’t know if its a chain or not) anyways they have all sorts of oddball stuff and very few furniture pieces. Everything was 50% off because they are going out of business. I saw this metal shelving unit and impulse bought it even though technically I don’t have anywhere to put it. Right now its in my library/craft room along the wall that I’m supposed to put my craft/office desk. I’ll have to find somewhere else to put it. I might just end up trying to sell it for double what I paid because heck….now that I look at it I’m thinking its pretty gothic and not quite my thing. See the big two stack of envelopes? I’m finally mailing out a big batch of doodles to lots of other bloggers and friends that I’ve been meaning to send since – don’t judge – middle of last year.

LYNN TURNED ME INTO MANGA / ANIME!
Last week my blogger buddy Lynn from Lynn’s Books drew me as an anime character. I was so flattered I just had to share it with you guys!

This Week’s Crafty AGGRAVATION!
I really wanted to do my first how to post this week for the shadowbox that I’m working on but I’ve been too scared to continue with the project for fear that I would mess up the doodle that I finally decided I want to use. So I have the white shadowbox painted white/cream, a drawing done and ready for color and possibly for cutting out, the mini books made….now I just need to decide what’s going to go into the background of the box….and color and cut the drawing …then decide if I’m going to add lettering. Anya says I just need to dive in and do it and if I mess up draw a new picture. But ahhhhhhh I hate messing things up!
So link up folks we want to see your art!

A shame Monstrous wasn’t quite the book for you (I’m going to read your review after this) but I do love the cover art. Your drawing of it is pretty cute and accurate!

Definitely sounds like you just need to DO IT re. the shadow box, though that’s a pretty scary prospect, especially considering all the work you already put into it. But it’ll be amazing. And I love your doodle! Very cute.

That’s such a cute doodle! And you’re right, that is a very particular style of shelf. Hmm…maybe if you spray-painted it white or something so you could keep the curved lines but make it match your current decor, too?

That shelving unit is cool! I totally would have bought it too. Though I have no idea what I’d use it for… Dad and I are horrible that way. I’ve come home to find a huge table taking up most of the living room; a couch and chair set; a big heavy desk; and bags/boxes of odds and ends. Garage sales and thrift stores love us because we’re likely to take home random stuff we don’t need or have space for, but we saw it and had to have it.
Can you make a copy of the doodle and try the shadow box with the copy? If you do something you don’t like, at least you’d still have the original to try again with? (or make more copies to use until you like an outcome.)

Great post, Tabitha! I’m particularly fond of that tail 😉 And I agree with Anya, if you mess it up (which you probably won’t), just do something else *shrugs* No big. You’ve got the crafty thing down, lady!

I really like how you turn existing things to your own drawing style. I love it 🙂 and haha, I was scared that my drawing got lost in the mail, but it’s good to see you were just late with sending it! I can’t wait 😀
